AB Segulah was founded in 1994 by Gabriel Urwitz and Anders Claesson. Gabriel initially acquired a small real estate company, divested its properties, and renamed it AB Segulah. Together, they aimed to develop a private equity business using AB Segulah as a foundation. Alongside them were co-owners including the Johan Rapp family, Karl-Adam Bonnier Foundation, Lars Josephson, and Per Nydahl, with Gabriel and his family as majority owners.

Originally, private equity operations ran within AB Segulah. However, as it grew, Segulah Advisor AB was established to manage private equity, while AB Segulah transitioned to a traditional investment company/family office. Initially, AB Segulah invested solely in Segulah private equity funds but began investing in smaller companies and venture capital from 2013 onward.

In addition to holding investments in Segulah’s private equity funds, Segulah V and Segulah VI, Aktiebolaget Segulah also invests in smaller industrial companies as a whole or majority owner and in startups (venture capital), particularly targeting the medical technology sector, often as a minority owner.

Aktiebolaget Segulah is an active owner, without a fixed investment horizon. The company is building a portfolio of wholly or majority-owned industrial companies intended for long-term ownership, as well as a portfolio of venture investments where, over time, it will naturally seek new owners for companies that can continue to support their growth and development. In its venture investments, Aktiebolaget Segulah plays a valuable role by leveraging its industrial expertise to help build robust businesses that can achieve commercial success.
